The Open Earth Project aims to "open up" our planet by collecting and displaying the widest range of
information from all corners of the natural world.
Such information includes all types of facts about the natural environment, the events that affect it or
relate to it, as well as the actions and achievements of those who are active in nature. Local, specific
and detailed information can be supplied to and displayed in this website with very little delay, nearly
in real time, by those who are at the source: conservationists, scientists, outdoors and sports people and
anyone who is involved or interested in nature in any way (more about our aims in About the Open Earth Project).
In order to fulfill these aims this website is designed not only to supply, but also
to collect information. Members of the public can supply information on any subject and any location of their choice,
thus making their contribution towards the opening the natural world for the benefit of all.
Members of the public can also contribute by becoming Editors, or by supplying their computing expertise for
the improvement of this website.

All information in this website is supplied on a voluntary basis by anyone who has specific information
on a topic related to nature,
and who wishes to share it. Authors can range from individuals through to outdoors clubs' members to
members of conservation groups to scientists and nature professionals. Groups such as clubs or companies
can be authors in this website as well as individuals. To supply non-commercial information (Nature Documents) in this
website is entirely free, including when the author is a company or commercial organisation.
Before supplying information the first step is to create an account and become a Member.
Also before setting out please read How to Create Nature Documents.

Before being published online all information supplied is reviewed by expressly appointed
volunteer editors, to guarantee compliance with the Open Earth Project's aims and authoring guidelines.
Editors are in charge of a specific range of topics (categories in this website's Directory) according
to their knowledge and skills and they control the publication of documents in these categories.
If you would like to become an Editor please send us an email
indicating:
- your field of expertise, including degrees and other practical experience or achievements
- the location and type of subject (i.e. categories) you would like to edit for
- why you believe you could successfully fulfil a position of Editor with the Open Earth Project. |
